The ongoing value of a Press Release

Category : Article, Blog Entry, Marketing, Press Releases

We typically think of press releases as being designed purely for informing the mass media, particularly newspapers, about newsworthy topics. New product releases, promotional events and slightly less ordinary occurrences are all great fodder for newspaper editors to fill their pages and as such they were once the way to get your brand into the paper.

As the Internet has taken over as people’s primary source of news however, are press releases now redundant?

Press Releases Have a Wide Reach

A well targeted press release has the potential to go far beyond your local weekly newspaper, either into the national daily press, local and national radio outlets and potentially even the nightly TV news bulletin depending on the ‘newsworthiness’ of the content. National coverage outside newspapers is notoriously hard to obtain, usually because business-related news is regarded as thinly-veiled attempts at free advertising. This does not mean one should not try targeting media outlets which have a national reach, but such attempts should be directed at those who have an inherent interest in your industry.

Obviously national coverage is the holy grail of any release, but most businesses grow from local interest first. The global market may be more accessible than ever, but it is unwise to neglect potential customers in your own backyard. When publishing a press release you must never forget to include the local press – sometimes national papers plunder local stories later on.

Press Releases Last Longer Than One Day

News dates quickly. The articles in yesterday’s paper provide a snapshot in time and the contents themselves are out of date come the publication of the next edition. But the Internet has somewhat changed the game.

Submission of press releases to web-based news outlets provides an historical archive of valuable information regarding your company. Admittedly this information is subject to change just like printed news but it still retains an inherent value when it comes to search engine rankings.

How so? Search engines like Google index news websites, usually with a greater frequency than they do a corporate website because the content is updated much more frequently. As the search engine collects the articles it also gathers the information regarding your business, adding it to the database of search results.

Why does this matter? The more content Google or Bing have on your business, the more value they assign to your website. The greater that value, the higher your site ranks when potential customer search for related products and services.

The press release remains a permanent pointer to your website, providing value long after the actual newsworthy content has diminished. As such, the investment of time and effort (or if you have someone write press releases for you, money) continues to pay dividends long after any initial flurry of media interest.

iPuja Pro Version 2 Brings iCloud Technology to Meditation Techniques

iPhone app upgraded to bring iCloud and notifications technology to the Buddhist discipline of meditation

Italian iOS app developer Fabrizio Bartolomucci has today released the second version of his popular comprehensive meditation aid, iPuja Pro which boasts a number of enhancements to take advantage of the iOS 5 upgrade scheduled for release by Apple later this week. The iPuja Pro app contains everything required for a successful personal meditation session using nothing but your iPhone.

According to the principles of Theravada Buddhism, iPuja Pro allows adherents to remember the times of the required meditation sessions. iPuja Pro contains everythingIcon for the iPuja Pro smartphone app required to participate in the recommended morning and afternoon sittings, along with the ability to shift them to match a changing schedule.

iPuja Pro 2.0 allows the scheduling of meditation sessions and then uses the new iCloud system to synchronise Calendar appointments between Apple devices. Dates and times of sessions are then available on any device to produce a record of progress. Another recent enhancement is the implementation of timeout alerts using the all-new Notification system introduced in iOS 5. Improved graphics round off the new app.

It is now possible to play relaxing music from the onboard iTunes library to aid relaxation. Alternatively freely available speeches from a meditation teacher of your choice can be selected to help attain a higher level of consciousness, or other objective according to the Buddhist tradition being practiced. iPuja Pro allows for fully flexible meditation sittings using music, instruction or silence according to the student’s needs.

Said Lead Developer Fabrizio Bartolomucci, “iPuja Pro version 2.0 takes the very best of the original app and augments it with the newest features of iOS 5 to make a truly useful tool for followers of the Theravada school of meditation. Every aspect of the app has been designed to ensure users have the very best possible meditative experience by marrying cutting edge technology with age old mysticism. Whichever school of Buddhism you practice, iPujaPro is the perfect meditation aid.”

In addition to the new functions, iPuja Pro still contains all the elements which made the original version such a success. A relaxing Tibetan bowl chime calmly alerts the meditator to the start and finish of their sitting, replicating the ambience of a Buddhist temple. iPuja Pro can also be used in a totally silent environment, where the built in vibrating alert will advise meditators of the beginning and end of a sitting.

iPuja Pro 2.0 is compatible with all devices running iOS 4.3 and higher including iPod, iPhone and iPad.

Based in Rome, Italy, iPuja Pro is the brainchild of Dr Fabrizio Bartolomucci. Bartolomucci has been developing computer software since his youth, before graduating in 1988 with a degree in Computer Science from the University of Pisa. His apps have received a number of positive reviews from iOS specialist blogs including AppGiveAway, SlapStart and KillerStartups thanks to the friendly nature of his user community.

The author, Rick Warren, has made a very bold claim which we are going to put to the test!”

“We welcome anyone to come along and join with us during the course,” said Ben, “Regardless of faith or background, having a purpose in life is important. We want the course to be a frank exchange of thoughts and experiences from which we can all learn, so we would really like to meet with anyone interested in knowing more on Wednesday night.”

Press Release – Minibus Stolen from Heybridge Church

Category : COC, Press Releases

Following the theft of their minibus, Christian Outreach Centre Heybridge approached Tech Write UK to write a press release with a view to generating some publicity in the hope of prompting a response from the public who may have witnessed the crime. The press release was circulated to Essex-based media outlets where it was then picked up by two local newspapers who wanted to cover the story in more detail. The text of the press release follows below

Minibus Stolen from Heybridge Church

Theft of minibus from church deprives the local community of Heybridge

Local church Christian Outreach Centre Heybridge is reeling from the shock of losing their newly acquired community minibus to thieves. The vehicle was taken from the church property on Broad Street Green in Heybridge some time on Monday 16th May. Police later found the minibus burnt out in a field off London Road outside Maldon.

Said Ted Mint, Senior Pastor at Christian Outreach Centre Heybridge, ‘We are very disappointed to have lost the minibus, most of all because it has been totally destroyed. We have only had the bus for a matter of months and had recently finished some restorative work so that we could begin a number of community programs. This theft has totally wrecked those plans as we cannot afford to replace the vehicle.’

The stolen minibus had a long history of community-based work, having seen service at a school and a local scout troop before coming into the possession of Christian Outreach Centre Heybridge. The church had most recently used the minibus to transport members to a ladies conference on the South Coast, only returning two days before it was stolen.

The minibus was taken from the church car park in Heybridge and driven to a field along London Road between Maldon and Woodham Walter before having several key components such as the radiator and battery removed. The thieves then set fire to the minibus completely destroying what was left of the vehicle. Firemen attending the scene noted that the fire had been so severe that the even the colour of paint had been rendered unrecognizable by the blaze.

Maldon Police have confirmed they are not actively investigating the theft of the minibus, but still welcome any information from the public who may have seen a red Ford Transit minibus around Heybridge or London Road, Maldon on Monday 16th May.
