How much does good copywriting cost? My rate card

Let’s not waste time – you want to know how much it will cost to have me work on your copywriting project. And that’s fair enough, because it may be that you look at the rate card below, wince, and resume your search for a good technical copywriter elsewhere.

But if you do think the numbers below are expensive, take a second to consider how expensive cheap copy is in the long run.

The figures below are a guideline. For every project I provide a fixed price quote so you and I both know how much the job will cost upfront. The rate card below will help you understand how I build a quote:

FAQs

Which currencies do you accept?

In addition to Pounds Sterling (£GBP), I regularly accept payment in Euros (€EUR), US dollars ($USD), Swiss francs (CHF), Polish Zloty (PLN). Other currencies may be available on request.

Do you work outside the UK?

Yes and no. I have clients across the globe, from the USA to Australia, Ireland to Poland and many other places in between. Annoyingly, I have yet to meet most of my international customers in person.

I am very much based in the UK and I am most definitely a native English speaker though.

Can you deliver copy tomorrow?

Possibly. Drop me a line and we’ll talk.

Yes, but can you *really* deliver copy tomorrow?

It has been done before, and it will be again. But we need to talk now if you want it to happen. Drop me a line using the live chat box to get started ->.

Do you offer agency rates?

I’m always open to negotiation. Let’s talk.

Can you do a free trial sample?

No.

Do you write academic papers?

No.

It’s your degree, you earn it.

Your prices seem a little high…

When you hire me, you’re choosing a writer with more than 20 year’s experience of the IT industry. And I’m not just some typewriter monkey either – I worked in IT support and management for 16 years before becoming a copywriter.

You’re paying for experience and high-quality copy.

I’m not the cheapest copywriter, and you don’t want me to be either.

Here’s why cheap copywriting sucks.

What tools do you use?

I work to your preferences, so I use a wide range of copywriting tools and comms services for my clients. I’ve listed some in order of preference:

Documents

  • Microsoft Word
  • Apple Pages / iWork
  • Plain text / RTF
  • Scrivener
  • Google Docs (but I’d really rather not)

Video conferencing

  • Apple FaceTime
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Cisco WebEx
  • Blue Jeans
  • Zoom
  • Google Hangouts

Project management

  • Trello
  • Astana

If you need me to be part of an ongoing project long-term, I’m also happy to join your Slack channels, or to use one of your corporate email addresses for client comms.

Do you speak any other languages?

Although I offer international copywriting services, my language skills are quite poor. I speak French and German to high school level, and I’m learning a few hundred words in Polish.

I am very good at working with people from across the world though, helping to turn their ideas into great copy – and sales.

Do you write tutorials / user guides?

Absolutely. Sometimes I’ll even supply screenshots. Let’s talk.

Do you write technical manuals?

I have written technical manuals and administration guides in the past, and I’m open to doing it again. If you have a specific project in mind, we should talk.
